Live database synchronization

Live database synchronization

At the moment, leitzcloud does not support synchronization of live databases.

These include:

  • Live Databases (.dbs)
  • Microsoft Access Databases
  • Lacerte
  • Quickbook
  • Files ending with .pst

Reasons for that are:

  • It is not possible for us to read and make changes on live data bases while they are open. Our scanner is designed for detecting changes and storing them on the cloud. Since programs for live databases often are not closed, our scan does not capture updates and cannot back them up properly.
  • The problem mentioned above can lead to file collisions when multiple users access a file simultaneously. This can lead to major issues for the end-user.
  • Live databases create many temporary files and manipulate primary files in ways that require special exclusions and pattern matching algorithms. This is equally true for Office and Auto CAD.

Recommendations

If you work with live databases we suggest the following:

  • Keep the database on your file server.
  • Create for users that need remote access to the files on the database a terminal server.
  • Use the leitzcloud for other parts of your file server.

We work on making synchronization with live databases possible in the future.
