Mapping a drive with WebDav


leitzcloud supports access through Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV), an extension of the HTTP protocol. WebDAV is an alternate possibility for users to view and edit files. You can easily synchronize your files with the leitzcloud via WebDAV.


Advantages of WebDAV

  • The desktop client does not have to be installed.
  • Shared folders and files do not have to be stored locally.
  • Folder and files can be accessed via the existing browser (Windows Explorer or Finder).
  • It supports authentication via Active Directory login details.
  • It can be activated for all users of an organizations or individually.

Set up WebDAV


Via settings in the Web Cloud

  1. As an administrator of your organization switch to the tab “Accounts”.
  2. Search for the account for which WebDAv should be activated and then select “Edit Account”.



  3. Activate WebDAV by checking the box beneath “WebDAV Access?”



  4. Save you changes at the bottom of the window.

With Windows

  1. In Windows Explorer go to your Computer.
  2. At the top select “Connect network drive”.
  3. In the appearing dialog box, configure the appropriate drive and folder: First, from the drop-down menu select a letter for the drive. Second, in the folder area enter "https://sync.leitz-cloud.com". Once you are done, click “Finish”.
  4. At the end, enter your user name and password and confirm both.

Please note: If you log in with your Active Directory details, use the format domain\username.

With macOS

  1. In the “Finder” bar at the top select “Go”. In the drop-down choose “Connect to Server”.
  2. In the following window enter https://sync.leitz-cloud.com.
  3. When prompted, enter your user name and password. Active Directory user have to enter their details as domain\username.
  4. Once you are done, finish the process using the button “Connect”.

Please note: Since Apple systems are limited regarding WebDAV access, we recommend using third-party apps, such as Forklift, to be able to use the full scope of access.


WebDAV limitations

Although it offers various advantages, it is important to note that WebDAV is an extension of the HTTP protocol and is not related to the leitzcloud system.

  • Microsoft Updates, that should be avoided are KB3101521, KB3008923, KB3055034 and KB3054886.
  • There is no access to the leitzcloud menu via right-click.
  • Files can not be locked or unlocked via WebDAV.
