Technical FAQ

How much bandwidth comes with my account?

The data you send and receive is limited to 20 times the size of your storage package per month. That means you can upload or download 20 times your total storage in a month. This is usually much more than you need to use your leitzcloud. If you happen to use more, we will contact you to see why this is happening.

Do I get software with leitzcloud?

The software is optional and can be downloaded when you log in to your leitzcloud account. After downloading, you can install the leitzcloud Sync Tool on either a Windows or Mac device. The Sync Tool can also be installed on Android or iOS smart phones. For more information on specific system requirements, click here. More information about installing the Sync Tool can be found here.

What is a Sync Tool?

The Sync Tool is an app that creates a sync folder in your system. All data in this folder will be automatically synchronized with the server. This folder is controlled by the Sync Tool and therefore has some additional features. Since this folder is synchronized to the server when a file is modified, it is possible to view the revisions of all files in the sync folder. It is also possible to share the files directly from the sync folder, as leitzcloud sends a (unique) link to the email recipients that you can add.

Where is the leitzcloud folder located on my local device?

After downloading the installation file, you can install and register the leitzcloud Sync Tool on your local device. You can then access all files from one folder. The name of the folder is leitzcloud sync folder. The leitzcloud sync folder is located under C: \ user \ [username] \ leitzcloud Sync. However, it is also possible to select a different location for this folder during the installation process. Pleases note: Do not select an external drive as the location of the sync folder. An external drive may unexpectedly disconnect and data loss may occur.

Why can't I see file and folder overlays on my computer?

See if you have another file synchronization application installed on your computer. Windows can only display a limited number of icon overlays (sorted alphabetically). If another file synchronization application uses visual overlays, it could block the leitzcloud Sync Tool. To solve this problem, read the article on icon overlay.

Why do I see a red X on my leitzcloud icon?

The leitzcloud Sync Tool may not be active. Open the Service Manager on your local computer, right-click on the desktop icon and select run. Right-click on the Sync Tool and select “Start”.

Can I backup a database?

The backup feature was created to back up and restore important personal files, like Microsoft Office documents, images, .pdf, etc. These are files that are normally stored in a user directory or home folder. This feature is not intended for backing up or restoring databases, operating systems or applications. Backing up directories that have application folders, system files, or temporary files results in high CPU usage and can interfere with the synchronization process.

Can I configure File Server Enablement for a san or NAS volume?

Yes, in addition to local paths, you can specify a network share, UNC path, or NAS device as a File Server Enablement source. For more detailed information, see How to Set Up a UNC Path for File Server Enablement.
